Plastic surgeons of the SCB Medical College Hospital are reluctant to go in for a reconstruction surgery to join the severed arms of Khirod Mishra (25) apprehending danger involved in it. Both the arms of Khirod were chopped off by a group of assailants on Tuesday at Balangir. Khirod was rushed here with the severed arms, but more than 12 hours of the incident.
“With damaged muscles, smashed bones and detached arteries and veins, it would be futile to join the severed arms,” said a plastic surgeon, adding that the severed arms were not properly preserved after they were chopped off. Doctors here are giving priority to save the life of the youth instead of going in for reconstruction surgery.
Although re-plantation surgeries at the SCB Hospital have seen several successes, the doctors in this particular case are apprehensive of the results. “However, a team of doctors drawn from several departments are discussing the management of the treatment. No decision has yet been taken on reconstruction surgery,” said the hospital spokesman Dr BN Moharana on Wednesday.
