A minor boy was allegedly beaten by a doctor inside an operation theatre (OT) at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here on Saturday. Ten-year-old Jayaram, son of Arjun Mansingh of Markandeswara Sahi in Puri town, had been admitted to the DHH as he was suffering from pyomyositis. He was then taken to the OT for surgery. Moments later, the boy started crying after allegedly being slapped by Dr PK Jena, who was performing the operation. The victim sustained grievous injuries on his face.
Tension gripped the hospital premises after the incident came to fore as the boy’s relatives and locals demanded action against the doctor. They also alleged that the doctor had committed similar acts in the recent past.
The boy’s family members also accused the doctor of taking Rs 900 from them as bribe for carrying out the operation.
The Kumbharpada police reached the hospital and started investigation into the incident. The Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) formed a committee to probe the matter. On the other hand, the doctor refuted the allegations by terming those as baseless.
