A viral picture showing a Block Programme Manager (BPM) performing certain sorcery to remove venom from a snake-bitten person has become talk of the town here.

According to a report, Babu Barik, a resident of Kullahachada under the Baliapal police station, was stung by a snake on Thursday while he was working in his farm.

He was rushed to the nearest CHC at Baliapal. The doctor there finding that he was bitten by a venomous snake referred him to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

In the waiting time for arrival of the ambulance to ferry Barik to the DHH, the BPM, identified as one Nayak, was seen performing something to remove the venom. Ultimately, Barik was shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack.

The onlookers seeing Nayak’s activities asked him whether he believed in unnatural power.

He refuted it but said he has some knowledge about the treatment as per Ayurvedic procedure, which he was applying to the patient’s wounds. It was not any sorcery, he maintained.
