In yet another example of the deteriorating law and order situation in Khordha town, unidentified miscreants barged into the clinic of a doctor and opened several rounds of fire at him on Sunday evening.

The victim was identified as Pediatric Specialist Dr Manas Ranjan Das. An employee of the medicine shop, Krsuhna Chandra Sahu, who tried to come to the rescue of the doctor, was also shot at by a miscreant and he suffered bullet injuries.

Sources said at around 6.30 pm when Das was attending to patients in the clinic in front of the District Headquarters Hospital, two bike-borne masked miscreants came there.

Suddenly, one of them took out a pistol and fired three rounds at Das. One of the bullets hit him on the stomach and he was critically injured. The assailants then fled from the spot. A critically injured Das and Sahu were initially rushed to the DHH but the doctors there referred him to a hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Getting information, the Khordha SP and other senior police officials rushed to the spot and began investigating into the incident. The motive behind the crime was yet to be ascertained.
