A paediatrician working at the Khordha District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) on Wednesday was allegedly kidnapped by kin of a baby who had died on Tuesday allegedly due to administration of a wrong injection at the hospital.

The abducted doctor, Pradeep Kumar Das, was later rescued by police from Bata Mangala bypass Chhak in Khordha district.

The relatives of the victim toddler reportedly abducted the paediatrician from his official residence at the hospital premises.

According to reports, the ailing child had been admitted to the paediatric department at the Khordha DHH on Tuesday. Dr Pradeep Kumar Das, who was on duty, examined the child at around 1.30 pm and administered the injection, following which the baby died.

Relatives of the child accused the doctor of administering the child a wrong injection.

Being informed about the kidnap of the doctor who has undergone a by-pass surgery recently, doctors, nurses and paramedical staffs of the DHH staged a dharna on the road in front of the hospital demanding arrest of the accused.

Police said the accused would be nabbed once the statement of the victim doctor is recorded with them.
