A doctor was found hanging at his in-laws’ house in Brahmapur of Ganjam district on Monday. It was suspected that he committed suicide.
The deceased was identified as Dr Surendra Nath Rath. He was posted as the Joint Director of Gajapati District Headquarters Hospital in Paralakhemundi.
Dr Rath, an alumnus of MKCG Medical College in Brahmapur was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside a room of his in-laws’ house under the Gosaninuagaon police station in the city.
The reason behind him taking the extreme step was yet to be ascertained.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the MKCG Hospital for postmortem.
“We were informed about the unnatural death of Dr Surendra Nath Rath. Preliminary investigation by police suggested that the death of the doctor was due to hanging. The final cause of death will be ascertained after autopsy, said a senior official of the hospital.
