Do panic reactions have any standing?

Published on:

Everyday newspaper headlines deal with rain, flood, bridge collapse and fall of rupee to dollar! There is much uproar over price of petrol rising to Rs 75 and rupee falling drastically to a dollar (Rs 100 a dollar).

My family uses public transport and Indian goods. We don’t find our monthly expenditure to have skyrocketed in last one year or so. A senior citizen railway ticket in an express train for 200 km remains the same for last ten years! A kg of rice was Rs 28 years back and now, it also is the same. Good brand packaged Atta two kg Rs 60 years before, and now, no change; similarly sugar, salt, suji, besan, oil, their priced are the same as before.

Vegetables price everywhere in Odisha is reasonable in spite of the incessant rain. Friends, be frank, tell me really what causes such a frantic reaction on the petrol price and the dollar. Does the rise in their price have any impact on your family life, unless you have 50 cars or import- export business?

Every one of us know why the petrol price is high and how much State and Central Government get by way of taxes from them but like an ostrich, we hide our head inside our news papers. There is a limit to criticism--be it NDA or UPA! Let’s be frank and accept the truth!

Most of the FB members have sons or son in-laws in foreign land and they are very happy when dollar price goes up. The problem of India is inside not outside.

A view of the fuel prices across the world won’t spring any surprise why they keep rising in India. The Netherlands: petrol Rs 139.79 and diesel Rs 113.27 (per litre), Greece: petrol Rs 137.62 and diesel Rs 118.28, United Kingdom: petrol Rs 120.39 and diesel Rs 122.54, Israel: petrol Rs 134.91 and diesel Rs 124.87, Turkey: petrol Rs 73.96 and diesel Rs 67.50, Germany: petrol Rs 124.16 and diesel Rs 107.65. France: petrol Rs 129.90 and diesel Rs 122.72. Bangladesh: petrol Rs 76.06 and diesel Rs 55.24, Bulgaria: petrol Rs 94.73 and diesel Rs 94.0, Chile: petrol  Rs 89.03 and diesel Rs 64.62 per litre, Mauritius: petrol Rs 103.42 and diesel Rs 83.28, Brazil: petrol Rs 76.94 and diesel Rs 58.25, Syria: petrol Rs: 31.64, diesel Rs 25.17, Hong Kong: petrol Rs 154.84, diesel Rs 126.88 and Delhi petrol Rs 79.4 and diesel Rs 71.43.
