Hundreds of SC women under the aegis of the Dhenkanal Mahila Mahasangha on Friday gheraoed the Dhenkanal UCO Bank under leadership lawyer Er Debashisha Hota alleging that the bank has made false loan accounts against Women Self-Help Groups (WSHGs).
Earlier in the first week of this monty, more than 60 women of Sarajang Sahi and Danda Sahi under the Dhenkanal Town police station had received notices from the bank seeking repayments of loans amount to `15.72 lakh in total which they had never borrowed or even requested for.
The poor SC were in a mental agony as the bank had threatened to take legal actions against them.
This high handedness of the bank authorities has kept us under mental pressure and, if our names not deleted from the list, we would be forced to commit suicide,” said the agitating women.
They demanded that stringent action be taken against all those who are involved in the loan scam.
Dhenkanal Sadar Tehsildar Satrughna Kar rushed to the spot and discussed about the matter with Manager lucky Naik and Mahasangha advisor Hota and its member leaders. He assured the allegation would be probed either by Vigilance or by the Crime Branch soon. Then only women called off their agitation.
