D'nal synthetic firm workers call off stir

The Odisha Synthetic Shramik Sangha members said they have postponed a mass suicide threat on June 10 at district Collector’s office. The decision was taken after the association leaders under leadership of anti corruption activist and farmer leader Debashisha Hota met Dhenkanal ADM Yudhistir Nayak. On June 3, the association of the employees of the Odisha Synthetic limited, which has been shut down for a long period now, had threatened to commit mass suicide in front of Dhenkanal Collectorate protesting the apathy of the administration to their plight.

They said that the company had not given them any compensation and arrears after it was shut down and transferred its assets to another company. The Dhenkanal ADM called a meeting on June 6 with the association leaders and assured that steps would be taken to address their concerns in a week. The association urged the ADM for payment of all dues to the employees of the company. Meanwhile, the association warned if the administration did not go by its promise, the employees would commit mass suicide in front of Naveen Niwas.
