D'nal sr citizens resent Postal interest rate

Discontentment is growing among senior citizens here as the local post office has adopted dubious policy in fixing interest rate for persons against deposits under the senior citizens saving scheme.

One former Central Government employee Raghunath Mishra told The Pioneer that as he is not getting pension, so he has deposited Rs15 lakh at the local post office in four accounts under senior citizens saving scheme. Earlier he was getting Rs34,213 towards quarterly interest at the rate of 9.3 percent. But, surprisingly at present the post office is paying him only Rs28,896 quarterly interest.

When asked, the post master attributed it to a fault in the computarised system. Investigating, a few senior citizens came to know that those who have deposited under the scheme after April, 2015 were getting interest at the rate of 9.3 percent, where as those who deposited three or four years back were getting less interest.
