24 mandaps took part in mass event

Amid elaborate security arrangement, the immersion festival of idols of Goddess Mahalakshmi passed off peacefully in the district headquarters town here.

Among the 38 puja mandaps that put up pandals, 24 took part in the mass immersion procession.

They reached with their tableaux at the Balaram Temple early at about 10.00 am. From there, the tableaux moved with conch blowing, drum beating and recital of melodious songs.

The procession took the route from the Dhenkanal palace to Barajora via the Bus Stand Chowk. SP Nikhil Kumar Kanodia, who joined a few days back, strictly asked all the puja committees to complete the immersion ceremony at Badajora before 11 pm sharp.

The silver tableaux of Mina Bazar and Kaibalya Bazar attracted the crowd. The tableaux of Bus-Stand, Golden Street, Kunjakanta and College Chowk immersed their idols at the Kunjakanta Tank.

The other ten tableaux from Chandan Bazar to Station Chhak already had taken out their Medhas in a separate procession from Bazi Chauk to Barajora earlier.
