DMs of seven districts asked to remain alert

Published on:

The Revenue and Disaster Management Department on Thursday asked the Collectors of seven districts to remain alert in view of the cyclonic storm ‘Pabuk’ which now lies centred some 1,500 km from Port Blair.

The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and emerge into Andaman and Nicobar Islands on January 5, informed Indian Metrological Department (IMD) sources.

The system is very likely to northwestwards and cross Andaman on January 6 and then re-curve towards Myanmar coast and weaken further by January 7-8, added sources. In a letter, the Revenue and Disaster Management Department on the day asked the Collectors of Baleswar, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Puri, Ganjam and Khordha to remain alert.

As the sea condition is likely to remain rough to high in Andaman Sea and adjoining areas of east-central and south Bay of Bengal, fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea from January 4 to 7.
