District Collector Samarth Verma and SP Sanjeev Arora have submitted a preliminary report to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on the custodial death of tribal youth Abinash Munda of Bhalupali village in the Ainthapali police station recently.
At the same time the administration is also waiting for the post-mortem report from the VSSIMSAR that is yet to be handed over to them.
“Once we get the post-mortem report, we would also submit the copy to the NHRC,” Verma said. The judicial inquiry will also begin soon to unearth the reason behind the death. “We have sent a request letter to the District Judge for initiating judicial inquiry. We are hopeful that an inquiry would be made with a specific report since people have high respect for a judicial inquiry,” the Collector further said.
He informed that the victim’s kin has been given compensation of `5 lakh by the Chief Minister.
It is further learnt that a State HRPC team led by Gopal Krishna Patnaik is also continuing its probe to unearth the truth.
