DJ-led panel to examine OOA complexes

The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Odisha High Court to constitute a committee headed by a district judge to examine and ascertain whether the litigious commercial complexes built by the Odisha Olympic Association (OOA) near the Barabati Stadium are within the leasehold area of the sporting body.

Taking up the Special leave Petition filed by the OOA challenging the HC order, a Division Bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices Dipak Misra and Prafulla C Pant asked the Acting Chief Justice of the Odisha High Court to form a three-member committee having two additional district judges as its members.

The State Chief Secretary and Revenue Secretary have also been directed by the Apex Court to coordinate with the committee so that it (Committee) physically examine and ascertain whether the 23 shops and the marriage mandap (Barabati Palace) lie within or outside the lease area of the OOA after comparing it with the original dlease deed.

The Bench further directed the Odisha Accountant General (AG) to file a fresh report within eight weeks detailing about the accounts of the Odisha Olympic Association (OOA) pertaining only to the shops and the marriage mandap that have come up on the controversial area.

The AG had earlier submitted a report to the SC after scouting the accounts of the Olympic body. The matter has been listed for further hearing on August 17 this year.
