Several persons sustained burn injuries, some of them seriously, while nearly 40 houses were gutted at different places in the State during the Diwali celebrations on Thursday night.
In Bhubaneswar, over 75 persons were admitted to the Capital Hospital as they sustained minor or severe burn injuries.
In a Cuttack city, assets worth over lakhs of rupees were destroyed after a fire broke out a trading establishment at Manik Ghose Bazar.
Reports from Puri district said at least 30 houses at landupala village of Pipili block were gutted after a firecracker landed on the thatched roof of a house, leading to rapid spread of fire.
In Kendrapada district, five houses were burnt down at Narasinghpur village while five more houses were gutted at Bodhagan village of Pattamundai block in the district.
