A month after the shocking gangrape of a girl in the Jaring forest in Junagarh, a differently-abled girl was allegedly raped on multiple occasions by a Sarpanch of the same area in Kalahandi district.
Reports said the girl used to work as a domestic help at the residence of Sarpanch Amulya Biswal where he allegedly raped her several times. The matter came to light after family members of the girl found that she was seven months pregnant.
When they inquired about the matter, the victim failed to narrate the ordeal she went through, as she can’t speak or hear. But she managed to identify the accused.
Despite a complaint before the village panchayat, no action was taken against the accused instead the girl and her family members were warned by the village panchayat to suppress the matter. The victim also allegedly received death threat from some people. Later, when the family members of the girl brought the matter to the notice of Kalahandi SP, he assured to take stringent action against the accused.
After a preliminary probe, police on Sunday arrested the prime accused Amulya in connection with the incident.
