Ditched by her lover, a 24-year-old transgender on Saturday attempted suicide by consuming poison in front of her lover’s house here at Badagada Brit Colony. She was admitted in the ICU of the Capital Hospital here.
Shiny was in love with a married man identified as Alok Jena. All Odisha Kinnar Mahasangh president Pratap Sahoo said Shiny managed to earn her living by begging in trains. She had given Alok all her savings and earnings amounting to the tune of Rs 1.10 lakh. “But for the last few days, the accused had been ignoring her. Despite her repeated attempts, the accused did not want to talk to her, forcing her to take the extreme step,” said Sahoo. However, Sahoo said the real matter would be ascertained once she gets well and is able to speak. After getting the information, a group of transgenders rushed to the hospital to facilitate proper treatment.
Sources said a formal police complaint has been filed against the accused.
