The bail application of top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda was rejected by the District Court here on Tuesday.
Mention may be made that while the Sarpanch of Daringibadi area Pradip Mallik was loitering suspiciously in front of the Santinagar residence of Dandapani Mohanty, a staunch supporter and aide of the Maoist leader, the police had arrested him and registered a case against him and seized some crucial Maoist supporting documents from him. Panda was alleged to have been involved in the incident.
Panda’s counsel Deepak Pattnaik had earlier filed bail application in the SDJM Court on the ground that the chargesheet against the Maoist leader could not reach the court in time. While rejecting the bail plea, the SDJM Court had stated that the period for filing the chargesheet against a common accused person could be 120 days while the same period for an accused who is antinational is 180 days instead of 120 days which is justified; hence there was no delay in this case.
Panda’s advocate Pattnaik challenged the SDJM Court’s order in the District Court with a bail application which District Judge Madhusudan Dhal also rejected.Pattnaik said an appeal against the District Judge’s order would be made before the High Court soon.
