The district administration on Sunday began an innovative effort to develop the students of weak standard at par with those of the meritorious ones. The students of VSSUT, members of the limsaren Youth Club and many other social organisations are voluntarily offering their services for this noble work for the students.

Collector of Sambalpur Samarth Verma and other district officials came to know that some VSSUT Burla students are teaching students of the Government schools there in the weekends. When these students came to know that some students of Government schools are unable to compete with their friends, they took it as a challenge and came forward to improve them academically. Initially, they taught 500 students and came out successful since the standards of the students were seen increasing remarkably.

Another group under the banner of limsaren Youth Club also was doing the same thing and mostly in the rural areas that drew the attention of the administration.

Hence, Collector Verma and other officials of the Education Department are geared up to do it in a more organised way and help all others who need similar guidance.

And Sunday was the beginning where good numbers of students, teachers of all schools and colleges of Sambalpur, Burla and Hirakud, including GMU, SU, VSSUT, IIM, etc., interested guardians, members of NGOs and educationists took part in the vibrant programme — ‘Teach for Sambalpur’.

“It is a memorable day for the district since it will give a boost to the weaker students,” said Collector Verma. Under this scheme, any interested man can teach such students in the weekends or after school hours, he informed.

District Education Officer (DEO) Dr Pramod Panda also assured all helps to the person interested for this noble work that will be of immense help to the students.
