Disqualify 9 B’garh ZP Members: BJP to SEC

Published on:

The BJP on Tuesday urged the State Election Commission (SEC) to disqualify the nine Zilla Parishad Members of Bargarh, who claim to have joined the BJD a few months back, under the anti-defection law.

A team of leaders led by Leader of Opposition Pradipta Naik met the SEC chief and placed the demand before him.

“Nine BJP ZP Members of Bargarh had won the elections on party symbol. They have quit the party in an undemocratic way. Their membership should be cancelled under the anti-defection law,” said party’s State spokesperson Golak Mohapatra.

He alleged that the BJD has adopted unfair means in taking the nine ZP members to its fold.

Among others, BJP State vice-president Ashwini Sarangi, spokesperson Umakant Patnaik, district president Arupananda Sahu and Irasis Acharya were present.
