Disputed land drags 10 to PS in Baleswar

The Town Police on Saturday arrested 10 people belonging to two rival groups here for allegedly indulging in scuffle over a disputed piece of land. The arrested were later released.

According to reports, the Ghosh family members of Motiganj had sold a piece of land, a pond measuring 27 decimal, to one Ayub Ali three years ago. Ayub had filled the pond with soil after purchase.

Notably, a daily market in Motiganj sits on some patches of land belonging to Ghosh family. The sold pond was a part of the land patches.

Recently, when Ayub constructed boundary wall around the purchased land, some vendors, who sit on the land during market hours, reportedly opposed Ayub against the construction. However, the next day a portion of construction was seen demolished. Ayuv suspected that the vendors pulled down the boundary wall and this triggered tension between them.

While Ayub maintained that he purchased the land in 2010 from the Ghosh family and filled it up, the vendors claimed to have a High

Court stay order on the same land.

The Town police station IIC Manas Deo said “The land record is presently in the name of Ali.  We arrested 10 persons belonging to the both the groups as they were engaged in scuffle. They have been released.”

The market committee has told us to show the stay order by Tuesday and both partied have been asked to maintain peace, Deo said.
