A local court here on Monday allowed the Crime Branch to take Dr Motilal Gouda on a four-day fresh remand for interrogation for his complicity in the fake gazette notification scam.

The Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SFJM) Court allowed the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch to take the disgraced Gouda on a four-day remand against the prayer for a seven-day remand. Gouda, the suspended Assistant Director of Directorate of Factories and Boilers, was produced in the court after the completion of the first phase remand of six days. Sources said the investigating team would confront Gouda along with his wife and others to extract more truths about the scam.

On July 3, Gouda was arrested by the EOW from Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh. On June 6, the EOW filed a case against him and his accomplices in connection with forgery, cheating, criminal conspiracy, causing disappearance of evidence to falsify the gazette notification causing financial loss to the Government. Gouda had gone incommunicado ever since his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Orissa High Court on July 24.
