The Bhasa Suraksha Sammilani organised a symposium at the Budhha Mandir here on Saturday and discussed the implementation of the Orissa Official language Act, 1954.
The topic was ‘The status of the Act and steps for its implementation’. The Government has already declared to implement the Act, but no concrete step has been taken yet in this regard, said MP Baishnab Parida. “As we are not using the Odia as our official language, Odia students do not have also interest to read Odia,” Parida added.
They demanded discussion on the Act and its implementation in the coming Assembly session.
Former Speaker Sarat Kar, advocate Dharanidhar Nayak, former MP Sibaji Patnaik and former Chief Secretary Sahadev Sahoo also spoke.
Intellectuals, writers, litterateurs, lawyers, scribes, civil societies, teachers and students and representatives of all political parties were present.
