Handicapped siblings Bidesi Sahu (40) and Pramodini Sahu (35) of Uffula village in Birmaharajpur block lead a wretched life despite several welfare schemes of the Government meant to improve the living conditions of the infirm and the poor.

Bidesi is unable to walk properly. He is not able to afford the treatment cost of his diseases and crawls his way to nearby areas to beg for a morsel of food. It all depends on the generosity of the people they beg whether they get anything to eat or stay hungry. It has been often found the duo going to bed empty-stomach for days when people around them turn their back to them.

Contacted, Executive Officer of Uffula Gram Panchayat Goura Charan Sahu promised to take immediate action to include the hapless siblings in different Government schemes, including providing them free treatments.

Locals have demanded the administration to take note of the plight of the brother-sister duo and provide them a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and disabled pension.
