Health department Director Dr Nalini Kanta Das on Saturday visited Biridi upgraded health centre and began a probe into the alleged woman health worker’s suicide incident which had occurred three weeks ago.
Reports said woman health worker Kalpana Swain who was working in Biridi hospital for last 20 years got transferred but she did not abide by the department order and approached Chief District Medical Officer [CDMO] Dr Bijay Kumar Sahoo seeking modification in it. However, when her request was turned down, the woman committed suicide by setting fire to her body.
The incident had created hue and cry among the Biridi hospital staff, including the locals. The CDMO had conducted an investigation and as a disciplinary action had transferred hospital medical officer Dr Rashmi Ranjan Patnaik. But, after public pressure mounted up for an impartial probe, Health Director Das visited Biridi hospital and began the probe.
According to sources, he met Biridi health staff, Jagatsinghpur CDMO and former medical officer Dr Patnaik, including a few locals. He said media persons that his probe was still inconclusive.
