A woman tortured for dowry approached a court here after allegedly pouring kerosene on her. She was identified as Samana Biwi (22), wife of Sk Nasim Mohammad (28), a resident of Khallsi Mohalla.
She reached the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Court when the proceeding of the court was underway. Dipped in kerosene, Biwi barged into the court room and said that she had come to set her on fire as means to vent her grievances as the police were not taking any action against her compliant. She said her husband and in–laws were constantly torturing her on the pretext of bringing dowry.
The Bench clerk of the court under the direction of the magistrate called police who reached there soon and whisked away the woman. later, she was sent to the District Headquarters Hospital for check -up.
Town police station IIC Bijay Kumar Murmu said Biwi had come to the police station in the morning to lodge a complaint against her husband and in-laws. She was asked to give a written complaint what she did not do and disappeared from there. “We believe she then came straight to the court,” he said.
