Is it legal on the part of a citizen to head the governing body of a college and appear at an examination at the same centreIJ Probably, the idea is not acceptable in the eye of law.
This is because persons in charge of conducting examinations are not entitled to remain in duty if their relatives appear at any examination. Many teachers have refrained from examination duties in the event of their children or relatives appearing at examinations.
But a person heading the governing body of a college has been allowed to sit for examination at the same institution. And incidentally, he happens to be Ramesh Majhi, Minister of Sports and Youth Service and Science and Technology.
Majhi, a young tribal, is a candidate in the Plus-III Examinations, writing papers at the college, whose governing body is headed by him. His father Jadav Majhi has established the college. He as the chairman of the college is the authority to appoint teachers who perform the role of invigilators during examinations.
No wonder, the issue was raised in the State Assembly by Opposition Congress MlAs. The Congress’ allegations that the Minister is being provided with all facilities including a single room to write papers may be termed as politically motivated. But is it also false that Majhi appears at the examinations at the same college in which he is the head of the governing bodyIJ No. The law should be equal for all, be the person a tribal living in forests or a tribal Minister residing in the State capital, say observers.
