Rourkela BJP MlA Dilip Ray on Friday said Union Urban Development Minister Venkiah Naidu has assured him to consider including Rourkela in the Smart City scheme.
Ray said he met Naidu over the issue and apprised him that Rourkela has all potentialities to become a mega city. “It is a planned city and bears importance for its proximity to mineral rich areas. Besides, the city has a huge technical skill pool due to the presence of premier technical institutions,” Ray told Naidu.
He also requested the Minister to expedite building of urban infrastructure projects so that the city could host more commercial and business activities and thereby create employment opportunities for the local youths.
Ray said Naidu assured him of taking all steps for the infrastructural development of the city and putting it in the league of developed cities. “I thanked Minister Naidu for his kind consideration of my requests and sparing a thought for the people of Rourkela,” Ray said.
