Senior BJP leader and Rourkela MlA Dilip Ray on Saturday praised the State Government for sponsoring the Indian men’s and women’s hockey teams.
In his reaction, Ray said the State Government’s decision to sponsor the Indian hockey teams is a good decision and would go a long way in promoting the sport, which holds a deep affinity with the youths of the State and, more so, in the tribal districts like Sundargarh which has produced some of the country’s top hockey players. However, it is all the more important to develop the sports infrastructure in the State and in particular the Sports Hostel, the condition of which is not so encouraging, he added.
At a time when Bhubaneswar is fast emerging as a new sports hub of India, it is essential that the Government comes up with training facility of international standards to hone and nurture new talents and ensure that the youths of the State are duly benefited from this emerging opportunity, Ray said.
