Excise Minister Damodar Rout on Wednesday admitted that though the Odisha Prohibition Act has been passed by the State Assembly since 1956, it is yet to be implemented due to various reasons.
Replying to a question of ruling BJD member Ranendra Pratap Swain in the Assemby, he said that the Act has not been enforced since its implementation is likely to result in trading of spurious liquor leading to illicit hooch consumption deaths. Considering this, there is a need for a thorough review on this issue before implementation of this Act, he opined.
