Diabetic boy not allowed hostel facility

Ashok Majhi (11) of Talakot village in Nangalbod GP under Sinapali block of Nuapada district has taken admission in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Tarbod. He wants to stay in hostel, but the school authorities are not allowing him as he is diabetic. The boy has even drawn attention of the DWO and the district Collector but in vain.

“I have drawn attention of the authorities towards the problems I am facing, but none has come to my support. I faced the same situation in Ekalavya School, where the Principal did not allow me to stay in hostel, Thus, I appeared at the entrance exam for JNV and qualified, but when the school authorities knew about my diabetes they asked my parents to take me back," said Ashok.

"We request the district administration to justify its decision of depriving Ashok of his right to stay in a hostel. What is there in the system for accommodating such students in Government residential schools? By not allowing him to stay in hostel, are we not depriving him of his right to education? Please enlighten us if there is any Government rule to prohibit a student to stay in hostel if he is suffering from NCDs," asks Zilla Adivasi Kalyan Sangha secretary Balkrishna Sabar.
