Seven crore Indian people are suffering from diabetes. The existing set of oral anti-diabetic drugs helps control sugars in the initial phase.
As the duration of diabetes progresses, the beta cells of pancreas which produce insulin gradually degenerate making it difficult for the existing drugs to reduce sugars in advanced stage. To bring down the rising blood sugars in these cases, there are several newer drugs being scientifically developed, said experts at a meeting held here on the occasion of launching of a new drug Glyxambi for the first time in Brahmapur. Consultant Endocrinologist from the Diabetes and Endocare Clinic Dr Sunil Kumar Kota was the chief speaker for the event, chaired by senior physician former Head of the Department of General Medicine, MKCG Medical College Prof Dr PC Sahu. Dr Kota highlighted the usage pattern, efficacy and safety profile of the drug to the audience.
About 60 doctors from the MKCG Medical College and Hospital besides private practitioners of Brahmapur attended the session. Renowned doctors like Prof Sarat Chandra Mohanty, Prof Saroj Panda and Dr Pramod Patnaik also graced the occasion.
A question and answer session was held.
