Vigilance police have arrested a gnaecology doctor of the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) on the charge of taking bribe of Rs4,000 to conduct an operation.
According to reports, accused Dr Umashankar Dalal had demanded Rs8,000 from one Raju Singh Thakur to carry out a surgery on his mother Sukanti Singh. Thakur paid Rs4,000 and promised to pay the rest after the operation.
When Dalal asked for the rest amount after the operation, Thakur paid him Rs2,000 and expressed his inability to pay more. Following this, Dr Dalal said his mother would not be discharged until the full amount is paid. Helpless Raju then took help of the Vigilance police, who laid a trap and caught the doctor while he was returning from another operation theatre in the DHH.
