The 16th Dhenkanal Mahostav was inaugurated at the Kapilash shrine in Dhenkanal on the occasion of the Utkal Divas on Wednesday. Inaugurating the event, Sadar MlA Saroj Samal said the art and culture of Dhenkanal has enriched the cultural scenario of the State. District Collector Rupa Roshan Sahoo presided over the meeting in the presence of ADM Sushama Rani Devi and Zilla Parishad President Binodini Samal. After worshiping God Chandra Sekhar, DRDA Project Director Madhu Sudan Mishra and district cultural coordinator Satya Kar brought the Mashal to the foothill of Kapilash. The Mashal was later brought to the meeting place at Science Park in a colourful procession.
While celebrations of the Mahostav and various competitions like Paika Akhada, Gopala laudi, Pala and drama at all blocks, NACs and Municipalities will conclude before May 4, the main function of the Mahostav will be held at mini stadium ground from May 4 for five days. A budget of Rs20 lakh has been earmarked for the celebration of festival.
