Dhauli art students chip in city green drive

An initiative of rehabilitation of trees and restoring greenery has been taken up on a large scale after cyclone “Fani” wreaked havoc in the Smart City Bhubaneswar.

Many social organisations, youth associations and environment lovers are seen putting in constant efforts till date to bring Bhubaneswar’s greenery back to its original state.

The abnormal change in the climatic condition plays a very significant role in driving the nature into taking such violent form of disasters exposing people more and more towards the edge of life threatening risks and dangers.

The only way to reduce the chances of occurrence of such calamities and deal with it at first place is extensive plantation and forest reservation.

The “Mind Empowerment Foundation” planned its plantation drive at the historical location of Dhauli Shantistupa. The art students of Dhauli College of Art and Crafts (situated at the foot of the Dhauli) extended their support to the foundation in the plantation drive with an opportunity to bond with the nature.

A series of Gulmohar plants were planted by the art students and volunteers and social workers of the foundation on both side of the college road.

The protection of the new plants from stray animals was ensured by surrounding them with fences designed by the art students using bamboo and sacks.

The Go Green plantation drive was initiated by social activist Sushanta Sahoo. Social workers of the Mind Empowerment Foundation, Manoj Pradhan, Purnima Pradhan, Deepak Choudhury, Ankit Pattnaik, Principal of Mahavidyalaya Panchanan Samal, general secretary Mihirkant Praharaj and Principal of Netaji Higher Secondary School, Mahakalapada, Apurba Kumar Rout  joined hands with Sahoo in planting the Gulmohar plants and also educating the art students on the Significance of trees with respect to nature.
