As per the call by the Keonjhar Joint Action Committee, people from all walks of life, including political leaders, staged a dharna in front of the Anandapur Deputy Collector’s office in Keonjhar district on Saturday demanding various developmental works in the district.

The demands included setting up of a mega steel plant, a medical college, railway line connectivity to the district and recognition to the Dharanidhar Autonomous College in the district as Unitary University, etc.

Former PCC chief Jaydev Jena also joined the dharna. The movement that has been started for the last one month has been supported by various political parties, lawyers and journalists bodies in the district.

The committee members threatened that they would resort to agitations like economic blockade in the coming days if the demands are not fulfilled. “If the Central or State Government does not fulfil the demands forthwith, the Government or the administration will be held responsible for any eventuality,” said a member of the committee
