Parents of a kidnapped girl and locals under the banner of Bodhagaon Panchayat Nagarika Manch on Tuesday staged a dharana in front of the Kendrapada collectorate against the failure of the Patkura police to take action against the accused and his Gram Rakhi father.
They alleged that even though the IG (Central Range) and Kendrapada SP have directed the Patkura Police Station IIC to take action against the miscreant, yet IIC Annapurna Behera was silent for vested interest.
They demanded the intervention of the district Collector to rescue the abducted girl, arrest the abductor and his Gram Rakhi father and dismiss the latter from his service.
They alleged that the since the accused is the son of a Gram Rakhi, the police was deliberately acting slow in the case.
On March 4 night, a 15-year-old girl, daughter of Rajkishore Sarangi of Karandiapatana, was kidnapped by one Kalandi Behera of Dalaanta village and his associates.
Rajkishore lodged an FIR at Patkura police station in this connection. But the police remained silent without taking any action. The parents of the victim girl later approached the district SP. The SP assured to take the needful action.
Rajkishore alleged that he was misbehaved by the Investigating Officer of the case at the Patkura police station. He along with his wife later met the IG of Police (CR) and DG and IG of police office at Cuttack urging them to take step. The IG directed Patkura IIC Behera to rescue the victim girl and arrest the accused person as per law. The IG too directed the IIC to submit a detailed action taken report by May 5.
The victim girl’s parents on April 17 got a letter in which kidnapper Kalia allegedly wrote that he had engaged the girl in flesh trade and demanded a sum of Rs10 lakh in lieu of returning the girl.
