DGP reviews poll security in K'handi

Published on:

A day after visiting the cutoff area of Malkangiri district, Director General of Police (DGP) KB Singh on Saturday visited another Maoist-dominated district, Kalahandi, to fine-tune the security arrangements for a smooth conduct of the panchayat polls.

He discussed about the Maoist situation with Kalahandi SP Brijesh Ray, Nuapada SP Sambit Sampad, Balangir SP Asish Singh and other top police officials. Among others, IG (Operation) RP Koche, DIG (South Western Range) S Saini and senior officer Narasingha Bhola were present.

“Every possible security measure will be taken for smooth conduct of the polls, and we hope good turnouts on the polling days in these areas,” said Singh after reviewing the situation.

On Friday, Singh had visited the cutoff area of Malkangiri and reviewed the security arrangements there and assured the candidates participating in the elections of all possible security from the police.

Since Maoists have warned people of dire consequences if they participate in the polls, the DGP’s visit to these districts assumed significance.
