Director General of Police Prakash Mishra is in the race of Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) with Haryana DGP (prison) Sharad Kumar.
As Mishra was the Additional Director General (ADG) of NIA before and has wide experience regarding the investigation in the national level, he might be the first choice for the top job.
But Mishra (1977 batch IPS officer), who is two-batch senior to Kumar, is learnt to have expressed his reluctance to head the investigation agency.
The other contender of the post, Kumar, had handled the Samjhauta Express train blast probe before the case was handed over to the central agency.
The Home Ministry might take a few more names as contenders, sources said. The final decision on new NIA chief would be taken soon, the Ministry sources said.
Meanwhile, the Home Ministry has given senior IPS officer NR Wasan the charge of Director General of the agency after SC Sinha moved to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) as a member.
