The Jagannath Temple was in the news again on Sunday for all the wrong reasons. A devotee from Maharashtra alleged that two temple servitors looted Rs 50,000 from his pocket while he was having darshan of the lords in sanctum sanctorum of the shrine.

According to complaint of Prakash Maruti Salunke from Bharat Khol in Maharashtra, when he along with a friend was having darshan of lord Jagannath in the Garbha Gruha, two servitors who were escorting them forcibly looted him. While one servitor held both his hands, the other took away the polythene packet containing the cash from his pocket. He lodged a complaint with the Simhadwar police. The police registered a case of theft and rounded up the two servitors belonging to the Mekap and Simhari communities of the temple. Further investigation is on, police said.
