Detaining kids: CWC to summon Excise sleuths

Published on:

The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of Sundargarh will summon a few Excise officials of Hemgiri  soon for detaining two children of a person for  hours  three days  back.

They were allegedly involved in illegal liquor trade. Their mother was also detained. All this was done to force the prime accused to surrender.

The CWC also registered  a  case  against the Sub  Inspector  of Excise,  Hemgiri.

According to sources, a team of Excise officials led by Sub Inspector PC Behera had conducted a raid in the house of one Jogendra Tirkey, a native of Bansi Darha village under Hemgiri block on Tuesday on information that Tirkey was carrying out illegal liquor trading. The officials had recovered about 20 liters of liquors from his house, but Jogendra reportedly had given a slip. The Excise officials had picked up his wife and her two daughters. They reportedly had informed the villagers to intimate Jogendra that he should reach in their office after which his wife and kids would be released.

The Excise officials, however, were successful in their approach, since Jogendra had surrendered on Tuesday. They, thereafter, released the woman and both the children. Jogendra was  sent to jail.  The highhandedness of the Excise officials, however, had raised eyebrows.

"We are going to summon the concerned officials soon." said Sundargarh CWC Chairperson S Dei.
