Denizens on Friday joined hands with BMC employees to remove plastic materials littered at roadsides, stickers and posters pasted on walls in the Master Canteen area here.
The cleaning drive was organised by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
“The idea of beautification should spread everywhere in the city as it not only gives pleasing look but also protects environment. Denizens need to cooperate in holding such campaigns as Bhubaneswar is going to be Smart City. Cleanliness is a part of living life; we clean our house for a reason, that reason should also be applicable to our streets,” BMC Deputy Commissioner Srimanta Mishra observed.
The Environment Department of the BMC, having a very active group, is involved in various programmmes to make the entire city safe, beautiful and livable. “We will paint walls with messages of culture and traditional art of Odisha,” BMC Environment Officer BK Routray said.
“It is a good initiative where technical people come to clean streets. I have brought my kid along so that she realizes how important it is to keep the city clean and also how easy it is to do so. Cleaning streets is like cleaning our house garden,” Dipak Saraf, a resident of Kharvelnagar, said.
