23 tested positive in ElISA test in SCB

In order to avoid confusing reports regarding the status of dengue in Cuttack district, the district administration has asked all the private and Government hospitals to send the blood samples of suspected dengue patients to the SCB Medical College Hospital for ElISA NS-1 and IGM tests for confirmation of the disease.

Reacting to reports published in a section of media, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Prafulla Kumar Behera has issued a circular to this effect, suggesting the hospitals not having ICU facility to admit suspected dengue patients. He, however, clarified that only critical dengue patients need ICU facility.

The SCB Medical College Hospital has till date received 56 blood samples of suspected dengue cases. Of which 23 cases are tested positive to ElISA NS-1 test. However, 12 of them are known cases of dengue as their samples are tested positive to the IGM test.  Nine of these patients are undergoing treatment in the hospital while three have been discharged after treatment, official sources said.

Meanwhile, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) is again found shaky in its approach to prevent the spreading of dengue in the city. The viral disease has now spread its tentacles in the city as patients having dengue positive are detected from several places. The SCB Medical College Hospital, the only Government facility to treat the disease, is now gearing up to handle the situation. Sources said a special and exclusive ward having 50 beds is now ready at SCB hospital to handle the dengue rush.
