Dengue has spread its tentacles in Kendrapada district and one Bhagaban Choudhury (72), a retired employee of the Paradip Port Trust, of Raipur under Mahakalpada block succumbed to the disease on Monday night after fighting with it for a week.

Two of his family members, including his brother Kailas Choudhury and granddaughter Bijaylaxmi Choudhury, were also detected with dengue positive. While Kailas is undergoing treatment in Bhubaneswar, Bijayalaxmi reached home on Tuesday after undergoing treatment in Cuttack.

locals said that about 30 villagers of Raipur have been suffering from the fever since last couple of days and nearly eight among them have failed to go to the nearby hospital. CDMO Jnanindra Tripathy said 34 persons were afflicted by the disease in the district till Monday; however, most of them have been cured while the conditions of the others were stable.

“It cannot be ruled out that the trucks, which were coming from worst dengue-affected Jajpur district plying on the NH-5(A), might have caused the spread of the disease in Kendrapada district,” said the CDMO.
