Dengue scare, which created havoc here last year, has returned to haunt again as the first case of dengue positive was reported on Tuesday.
One Dillip Kumar Basu of local Madhusudan Nagar of Tulasipur is now undergoing treatment in a private hospital here suffering from dengue. Hospital sources said on Wednesday that his condition was improving and he was shifted to a general ward from ICU.
“The blood platelet count of the patient was dismally low at 45,000 when he was admitted last week. But today, it was pegged at 1,30,000,” the hospital sources said, adding that the normal blood platelet count is between 1,50,000 and 4,00,000. The patient reportedly suffered from fever while he was returning from Hyderabad last week.
Meanwhile, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) is finding itself in a critical situation as it is suffering acute fund shortage to meet the requirements to save the city from mosquito menace. Reports said that the civic body is not having enough money to purchase the Ml oil to destroy the mosquito larvae or even to purchase disinfectants like bleaching powder.
All the tall claims of the civic body about a few weeks ago that it is well equipped to meet any eventuality are now falling flat.
