In view of the spurt in dengue menace in Ganjam district, the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC) undertook a mass cleanliness drive in all the 40 wards on Friday.
MlA Ramesh Chandra Chhaupatnaik inaugurated the drive in the presence of BMC officials and staffs and the drive would help check the spread of the mosquito-borne disease in the district to a great extent. All the staffs of the BMC and the general public were indulged in cleaning the drains and sewerages in all the Wards at a time.
The initiative was aimed at cleaning the water logging drains that mainly contributes to the breeding of the dengue mosquitoes and also sensitizing the general public about the causes and prevention of the disease, said a BMC official. “People are advised to keep their surrounding clean and not to thrash mosquito-breeding waste materials like tires and plastics in their localities,” the official added.
