Even as the demand for establishment of a new rail division has been getting shriller by the day in the district, a core committee has been formed to mobilise public opinion and pressurise the railway authorities through the Central and State Governments to consider the demand of the north Odisha people.
More and more organisations are extending their support for the cause while local MP RK Jena on Wednesday too raised the demand in the lok Sabha.
Jena said the district despite occupying a strategic position continues to bear the brunt of the apathy of the South Eastern Railway (SER). The revenue generated both in the terms of passenger fare and freight collection is quite satisfactory against the rail length, he added.
For the better interest of north Odisha, Baleswar should be brought under the East Coast Railways (ECoR) and a separate division be created in the place, he added.
Besides, members of the Bampada Suraksha Manch has submitted a memorandum in this regard to the district Collector. The demands included extension of several trains and starting of some trains besides establishment of a new railway division.
