Opposing the demand for annulment of caste-based reservation, High Court lawyer Akul Chandra Sethi has said that as per Constitutional provision while 60 per cent seats are reserved for the general category in admission, service and political level, 40 per cent seats are reserved for SC ad ST people for the same.
Notably, the Youth for Equality, Odisha on March 1 had organsied a youth rally here demanding repealing of the ‘caste-based reservation system’ at all levels. A news item of the same was published in The Pioneer on March 2.
In a letter to The Pioneer on March 4, Sethi said the reservation facility is the Constitutional right of the SC and ST people and not a single SC and ST people is occupying the seats meant for general category with regard to reservation.
