Deluge hits 300 villages in Puri dist

Published on:

People of over 300 villages under all the 10 blocks in Puri district have been affected due to the ongoing floods, sources said.

Reports received by Thursday afternoon stated that rivers like Devi, Daya, luna, Bhargabi, Malaguni, Kushabadra and Makara were flowing above the danger levels at different places in the district.

At some places, river water was running over embankments forcing thousands of villagers to strand with Government officials on high places day and night. Boats have been engaged for evacuation of affected people to safer places.

The flood situation seems to continue in the district as discharge of flood waters to the sea has been slowed down due to the southern wind. It is also apprehended that the sea would be very slow to receive water in coming two-three days as a full-moon day is approaching. High tides are expected on Shravan Purnima day on Sunday, officials said.
