Panic gripped the Biju Patnaik International Airport here on Saturday when four miscreants allegedly tried to kidnap a New Delhi-based youth who reached Bhubaneswar along with two of his friends late on Friday night.
While the miscreants attempted to take the youth, identified as Gopal Ram Singh, along with them forcibly at the Terminal-II of the airport after pulling him from the entry point where the security check is done, Singh screamed out for help. When people and security personnel present on the spot rushed for his rescue, the miscreants fled.
Singh, who claimed to be a cargo staff at the New Delhi airport, said he had come to Odisha on the request of the very four persons who tried to abduct him, to visit their aviation academy cargo terminal located in Odisha.
However, Singh was unable to tell the name of the aviation academy. “I was on a visit to Odisha with my two friends from Delhi. last night, I was detained by some youths. later, my Odia friend who had invited us to Odisha managed to rescue me. Today, that gang was trying to kidnap me from the airport,” said Singh.
The Commissionerate police reached the spot and a probe was going on. The incident has been captured by CCTV cameras installed at the terminal with clearly visible pictures of the miscreants.
“The four miscreants had offered me drinks. As I am from a family of sound financial background, the four youths tried to kidnap me,” Singh said, adding that the miscreants had been to his house in Delhi.
